Fall Fashion Tips For Your Curves
The famous saying “beauty comes from the inside” while it’s a good thought, I’m afraid it isn’t supported by women’s magazines, television and the fashion industry. Plus size women are told to be bold and proud of their curves while most trends that hit the streets from runways do not accommodate the full size woman.
Although, designers such as Karl Lagerfeld get brownie points for using plus size model Crystal Ren in his London’s Fashion Week Spring 2011, these “plus size models” resemble my size 6 figure more then the curves of sizes 14 and 16.
But hey, at least the fashion world is making a step towards catering to the womanly hips and apple bottoms!
Here Are Some Tips To Enjoy The Fall Trends For Fuller Figures
This fall color is bigger and bolder then has been in some time. While you might be hanging on to your darks for dear life, you can liberate yourself from the gray-scale and retire the blacks, at least for some time. Dresses are a great way to try out this trend.
Make sure that you choose dresses with vertical lines not horizontal. If you tend to be larger on your bottom half, you can pair dark bottoms with a colorful top. If color really intimidates you, take baby steps. Try adding a bright scarf to your outfit, or bright shoes, or a necklace.
Cinching your outfit with a wide belt will create a more defined waist. Heels always elongate the body, given you know how to walk in them. Below are some ideas and examples of ways you can wear color this fall. You can also add color by throwing on a bright color blazer on top of a dark dress or pant and top.

Go for a maxi skirt that is made out of stretchable cotton jersey for a good fit. Pair it with a tunic top or sweater for a sexy outfit. Stay away from patterned skirts, I would suggest sticking to one tone colors, unless the color lines are asymmetrical.
Make sure the hem of the top or sweater does not fall at the widest point of your hips, rather just below or above the widest point. Pair a kimono sweater with a maxi skirt for a very playful and sexy look.

Since sequins and color are invading this fall style, go for dresses with built in shape, that are cinched at the waist to help create an hourglass figure. ( see Sara Ramirez below) Draping sleeves are a great way to hide the arms.
Three quarter sleeves are and long billowy sleeves are very sexy and accentuate your shape and help to balance out your proportions. Draped and gathered dresses in jersey , silk or chiffon help to cover up the tummy bulge.

Wrap dresses are a must, they camouflage your tummy and hug your curves in just the right places. Deep V necks tops are also great for plus sizes, they elongate the body , making it appear slimmer. Undergarments are just as important as your clothes.
Make sure you are wearing the right size and have enough support. I’m a size 6 and I own a couple of different shapewear pieces that I sport shamelessly under some of my glove fitting dresses.
